ONE DAY DANCE
Our main project each season is our dance film series. One Day Dance creates a platform for choreographers to experiment and create new work on film. The only restriction is that each choreographer only gets 24 Hours to create their work. This includes rehearsing, filming, and editing. It is certainly a challenge but these choreographers were up to the task. Enjoy these films and discover what is possible to build in a day!

Hato po ppo" means "pigeon" in Japanese, and the song used in this piece is a Japanese song with a pigeon theme. The idea for this piece came to me one day when I saw a pigeon sitting on a subway seat then getting off at the next station. Did that pigeon go to home? work? Or a party? If you look closely, the movement of a pigeon is comical, the sight of it spreading it's wings taking flight is beautiful.

Double Bind: when does supporting each other allow us to rise and when does it drag us down? Are we our authentic selves or are we how society told us to be? A dance film that navigates those questions translating women's voices into movements delivering a shared message of sisterhood, human connections and social conflict.

Adventures in Success

Adventures in Success is a screendance short featuring two dancers and takes inspiration from Will Powers’ song, Adventures in Success. The film pokes fun at “shallow” modes of self-realization while using physical comedy to transform the protagonist from a clumsy, self-conscious person to success. This work is part of ongoing research into the lighter side of movement, exploring comedic elements without ditching rigor and important social commentary.

BACKSEAT

BACKSEAT is a play on the scale of movement and speed. Starting with gesture work, the dancers are challenged to move one gesture per beat and see how it informs their partner's choreography. This continues to grow into full-bodied movement until the dancers are in a frenzy that saturates the space. The structure of the work is mechanical, almost like an engine, and the dancer's determination and energy drives the piece forward.

The Counter invites viewers to peek inside a negotiation between two people. The tension and means of communication between the dancer's changes as their surroundings and the viewer’s point of view changes, asking the audience to see new connections between intimacy and isolation when pushed to its spatial extremes of interior and exterior.

Looking within may reveal many different sides of yourself. In "Reflections" we explore how to manage these sides and become more in tune with them through movement. We find that deep self-reflection will always lead to a brighter tomorrow.

Realities Echo
Season

Realities Echo is about the shifting of our perception of reality. How does our reality change when we are experiencing life alone versus entangled in it with another human being. How do we navigate our ever shifting reality and our perception of time. The dancers go through stages of tumultuous-ness vs soft echoes to showcase this shifting of time, reality, and relationships.
