Born and raised in New Orleans, LA, Imani completed her pre-professional training at New Orleans Center for Creative Arts as well as graduated from the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College, SUNY. Throughout her pre-professional career she has attended training programs including The Ailey School, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and The Juilliard School. During her time at Purchase College, Imani studied abroad with the Amsterdam Academy of Theatre and Dance at Amsterdam University of the Arts. Throughout her college career Imani has created nine works which includes three films. She has also performed works by Amos Ben-Tal, Rena Butler, Roderick George, Nicole Beutler, and Ohad Naharin among many others. As the director of her start-up non-profit Gaudanse, Imani’s ambition is to create a collaborative space for all artist alike while exploring what it means to delve deep into how movement languages brings forth new ideas and translates to what we call dance.
